WSOS Community Action / Sandusky County

Randy came to WSOS seeking help. He and his wife were homeless. They had recently been told to leave the tent they had been sleeping in, which was located in the backyard of Randy’s stepmother. They had spent the last two nights on a park bench. The year before, they had lost custody of their children because of a lack of stable housing, a lack of stable employment, and domestic issues related to a prior domestic menacing charge.

The staff at WSOS enrolled Randy in the Fatherhood Connections program. They also referred Randy and his wife to a local hotel where they could stay at no charge in exchange for doing housekeeping, laundry and maintenance. Randy enrolled in the 24/7 Dad class later that month. He completed workshops on employability and job seeking. After being referred to various local employers, he found a part-time job as a dishwasher at a newly opened restaurant. A year later, he exited the Fatherhood Connections program.

Since leaving the program, Randy has been promoted to a “meat smoker” position. He and his wife got an apartment, and they also regained custody of their children. He made a surprise visit to WSOS several months after leaving the program and reported that, although they’ve had some ups and downs, overall they’re doing well. He was very proud of his accomplishments.
